AI Market Research

Build research you can trace back to its sources

Use AI to organise research material and draft comparisons for review. Yes AI can help design a workflow around the question, permitted sources and evidence needed for a business decision. Keep source observations and assumptions visible throughout the process.

30-minute consultation: free for businesses with 20+ full-time staff; otherwise AUD200 including GST.

What the workflow can include

01

Define the research question

Specify the decision, geography, customer group, product scope and period. Agree which evidence would change the decision and which gaps the research needs to resolve.

02

Approve sources and access

Record the source owner, collection method, access conditions, licence and permitted reuse. Review personal-information handling and subscription costs before connecting a collector or model.

03

Make records comparable

Align units, currencies, GST treatment, product variants and time periods. Record missing values rather than silently replacing them. Keep source definitions beside the comparison.

04

Draft with traceable evidence

Attach the source, relevant excerpt or permitted record, publication period and check time to material findings. Separate the source observation from the model interpretation and from staff assumptions.

05

Review uncertainty and conflict

Have a researcher verify important claims against the original material. Explain conflicting sources, sample limits and estimates. A second copy of the same underlying claim adds no independent evidence.

06

Agree refresh and decisions

Choose a refresh schedule that fits access and the decision. Route material changes to an owner, retain useful version history and record the human decision separately from the research summary.

A fictional source-review notebook

These three records demonstrate a review method. The suppliers, interviews and data extract are invented; no live research or competitor measurement runs on this page. Each observation has a check and a limit on the conclusion it supports.

Fictional supplier price sheet

Observation
A listed product price changed from AUD120 to AUD110.
Check before using it
Confirm product variant, GST, delivery charges and promotion dates.
What it does not establish
Does not establish the average transaction price or customer demand.

Fictional customer interview notes

Observation
Four of six interviewees asked about weekend delivery.
Check before using it
Record how interviewees were selected and review the original notes.
What it does not establish
A small selected sample does not estimate the preference of the whole market.

Fictional industry data extract

Observation
An annual total covers a broader industry than the proposed product.
Check before using it
Check the industry definition, geography, period and exclusions.
What it does not establish
The broader total cannot be presented as the product addressable market.

Read definitions before comparing industry totals

The Australian Bureau of Statistics publishes methodology alongside Australian Industry statistics. Use the relevant release definitions and scope when deciding whether a measure fits your research question. Record the release and period used so another reviewer can repeat the comparison.

ABS Australian Industry methodology

A useful research deliverable

Request the question and scope, a source register, reviewed findings, assumptions, unresolved questions and refresh responsibilities. Keep the evidence available for the person making the commercial decision. Measure review effort and corrected errors during a pilot before expecting ongoing time or cost reductions.

Agree the scope before connecting data

Start with a defined workflow and representative examples. The proposal should identify the software, responsibilities, access and acceptance checks. Delivery time and price depend on that scope.

  • Define the decision, scope, units and comparison period.
  • Approve sources, collection access, reuse rights and data handling.
  • Link each material finding to its original record and reviewer.
  • Agree how missing, stale or conflicting evidence affects the deliverable.

Questions about ai market research

Where can AI help with market research?

A defined workflow can collect permitted material, organise source records, draft comparisons and identify questions for a researcher to check. Start with a business question and an approved source list. Coverage and useful conclusions depend on access, source quality, definitions and human review.

Which sources can we use?

Assess the sources needed for the question, such as your own research, licensed reports, official statistics and permitted public material. Check access terms, collection methods, rights to reuse material and handling of personal information. Public visibility alone does not establish permission to collect or republish everything on a site.

Can the workflow monitor competitor prices?

It may compare accessible, permitted price records for defined products and locations. Record currency, GST treatment, variants, delivery, promotion dates and collection time. A displayed price is not evidence of sales volume or the price every customer paid. Frequency and coverage depend on access and provider limits; agree missing-data and change-review rules.

Can AI estimate the size of a market?

It can help organise inputs to an estimate. Define geography, customer group, product scope, time period and units first. Keep assumptions separate from source measurements, show ranges where inputs are uncertain and explain exclusions. Search interest, audience counts and job advertisements do not directly measure market revenue.

How should we interpret reviews and sentiment?

Reviews describe the people and channels sampled, which may differ from the full customer population. Check duplicates, missing channels, language, context and how the sample was selected. Test any sentiment labels against reviewed examples from the actual topic. Keep uncertainty and disagreements visible instead of assigning an unsupported accuracy or confidence percentage.

Does a comparison chart tell us where to invest?

A chart can display defined measurements or assumptions, but its axes do not establish a business strategy. Check the source, scale, time period and comparability behind each point. Investment, pricing and exit decisions need broader commercial review. This page uses a source-review example and makes no recommendation about an actual company.

How current and reliable will the findings be?

Record both the source publication period and the time it was checked. Link each material claim to its evidence, flag missing or conflicting data and assign a reviewer. Agree the refresh schedule and error-handling process after checking access. An AI-generated summary or repeated claim is not independent corroboration.

What does a research pilot cost and how do we start?

Bring one research question, the decision it supports and the sources you may use. Scope collection, licences, review effort, refresh frequency and deliverables before quoting the work. The introductory consultation is 30 minutes, free for businesses with 20+ full-time staff; otherwise AUD200 including GST. Research and implementation work are quoted separately.
